I got an email yesterday asking me about Right Size Smoothies … or MyRightSize as it’s now known. This is a company that sells a smoothie mixer that you add to fruit that can then be used as part of a weight loss program.
The cost is around $2 per serving (see here) when you add postage. Then you have to add fruit on top of that.
The list of ingredients of one of their best sellers are (from here)…
SOY PROTEIN ISOLATE, RESISTANT MALTODEXTRIN (SOLUBLE DIETARY FIBER), CRYSTALLINE FRUCTOSE, CANOLA OIL, CORN SYRUP SOLIDS, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, BEET POWDER (COLOR), SILICON DIOXIDE (AN ANTICAKING AGENT), CARBOXYMETHYLCELLULOSE GUM, XANTHAN GUM, SALT, SODIUM CASEINATE (A MILK DERIVATIVE), GREEN TEA EXTRACT, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSPHATE, ACESULFAME POTASSIUM, SOY LECITHIN, MONO- AND DIGYLCERIDES, GINGER ROOT EXTRACT, SUCRALOSE, CINNAMON BARK EXTRACT. VITAMINS AND MINERALS DICALCIUM PHOSPHATE, DIMAGNESIUM PHOSPHATE, ASCORBIC ACID, VITAMIN E ACETATE, NIACINAMIDE, ZINC CITRATE, D-CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, MANGANESE SULFATE, RIBOFLAVIN, THIAMIN MONONITRATE, COPPER GLUCONATE, FOLIC ACID, BIOTIN, CHROMIUM PICOLINATE, POTASSIUM IODIDE, PHYTONADIONE, SODIUM MOLYBDATE, SODIUM SELENITE, CHOLECALCIFEROL (VITAMIN D3), CYANOCOBALAMIN (VITAMIN B12).
So that’s protein powder, sugar and a whole load of stuff that looks very scary. I’m not really sure that we need carboxymethylcellulose and xanthan gum on a daily basis – whatever they are.
Here’s the ingredients list for one of my smoothies (from here Not Stuck-in-a-Rut)…
BANANA, OATS, BERRIES, CELERY and KALE.
The advantages are: it’s 100% pure, there’s no added chemicals, gums and stabilisers, it’s cheaper and it’s healthier!
I’d urge anyone using one of these mixers to try some of the smoothie recipes on this site for a week. Mix it up a little and have some fun. I can guarantee you’ll feel a whole lot better and you’ll even have saved money. Let me know how you get on.
