Buy your fruit in bulk – so you get it cheaply. Then wash, cut, core, stone, peel and freeze it – so that it stays fresh for months. Doing all this in quantity also saves time and effort.
I mainly do this to stop the fruit going off so quickly. However, it also cools the smoothies down – which saves you adding ice to the mix and trying to break that up.
Just make sure you peel and chop the fruit up when fresh – as it’s much harder when frozen. I freeze my fruit on a flat tray – so they don’t stick together – and then bag them. Easy enough to do if you have a large freezer.
The only downside of frozen fruit, especially bananas, it you can end up with the occasional lump. However, being fruit – it’s not exactly the end of the world!
