OK, not the most obvious additions to your morning smoothie – but have faith – they do work!

Seeds and nuts are packed full of energy, healthy oils, protein, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. And there’s so many to choose from. Take cashew nuts – they are packed with manganese, potassium, copper, iron, magnesium, zinc and selenium – and give the smoothie a rich creamy texture.

There are two basic ways of adding seeds and nuts to your smoothie – depending on the effect you’re after.

The first is to put them into the blender at the start – with a little water. Blend them till they are all smoothed out – and then add the rest of the ingredients. So, you have all the goodness and taste – but no itty bitty bits.

However, the way I like to add them – is putting them in last. That way you end up with little bits of nutty goodness – which I really like.

However, don’t overdo them – seeds and nuts tend to be high in calories. So watch that waistline – they can be addictive!
