Yogurt.

I believe that yogurt is one of life’s super foods. It’s a great source of protein and calcium, it’s packed full of those probiotic critters, it’s easier to digest than milk, it lowers your cholesterol and tastes fantastic. What’s not to like about this amazing stuff.

As well as all these benefits – you can add it to any smoothie to give it a velvety texture and luxurious taste. How much you add and what flavour you use is all down to your individual palate. Personally I’d steer clear of adding it to green smoothies – but hey … whatever floats your boat. Also, I tend to use plain yogurt – and I make sure it has no added baddies like sugar and sweeteners.

If you’re trying to get your kids into the smoothie habit – adding a little yogurt can make the smoothie feel more of a treat as it adds a creamy texture. So they think they are getting soothing naughty – yet it’s packed with goodness. So you can feel good about yourself – you sneaky thing.

Tip: for those of you that can’t take too much dairy – you can replace the yogurt in these recipes (see the list on the right) with tofu – like for like. You might have to add a bit more water – not too much though.
