Garlic and Onions.

Garlic and onions?!? Indeed! These are not ingredients I would suggest you start with – as they might put you off smoothies for a while!

However, both of these in their raw state are extremely good for you and, when done right, can be very tasty.

Let’s start with onions – the least cutting of the two.

First of all you need to select the less robust ones – such as red and sweet onions. Then start with small amounts, I’d suggest a ¼ is enough, and ensure the taste is balanced well. Things that go well with onions are things like: cucumbers, tomatoes and avocado – not banana or berries. It’s all matter of taste – but blended well the onion can be part of a really tasty smoothie.

Now … garlic.

Personally I’ve never been able to use it as I’m not a huge fan of the taste. I find even the smallest sliver of garlic overpowers the rest of the ingredients. So you will have to love garlic to use it (and have some very understanding friends).

The recipes that can take garlic are essentially the same as the ones that take onions. I’ve been told that mixing with things like cayenne pepper and Worcestershire Sauce works very well.

You won’t find many recipes that include garlic – so it’s a matter of experimenting and, I’d suggest, starting with small amounts.
