Protein Shake.

Protein ShakeSmoothies are normally high on the carbs and pretty low on protein. Unfortunately not too many fruits and veggies have much protein in them … so you have to add something like nuts – or in this case protein powder…

  • ¼ cup plain protein powder
  • ½ cup grapes
  • 1 banana
  • 1 medium carrot
  • 2 teaspoon poppy seeds (optional)
  • ½ cup water

Many people already use protein powder to supplement their normal food intake. Protein shakes can be hard to mix and often taste pretty terrible without added flavourings and sweeteners. Putting the powder in a smoothie solves both these issues – the powder is automatically blended into the smoothie – so no lumps … and the taste of the smoothie masks the taste of the powder. I normally add a scoop of protein to my morning smoothie for this very reason. Also, as it’s being blended, I can use 100% natural protein powder without any additives at all.

This recipe is thick, tasty and filling … what more could you want? Just ensure you give it a good whizz to break down the poppy seeds. I love poppy seeds as they are packed full of nutrients and have a great flavour – they are optional in this recipe … but try it with – I think you’ll like it :)
